Hello to all, I am new to this website as well as a first time owner of skid steer. I apologize in advance for the length of this post. I have read through about 24 pages of Case related posts and have not come across my situation although I would think it has occurred before. About a month ago I bought from a neighbor an 1982 (I think) Case 1845 model (no B or C). The previous owner had pulled the engine out due to excessive oil leakage but had never rebuilt the engine. After the engine was pulled he then found two Case 201 gas engines that were previously in Case 660 combines. None of the engines have been run for about 10-15 years. One of the 201 engines was supposed to have been rebuilt and from an initial look at it (oil pan off and valve cover off) it appears to be in good shape and usable. So I have three engines, the original Case 159 gas engine and two Case 201 engines. All are complete. I believe the blocks are the same for the 159 and 201. The heads are different but it looks like there should be no problem bolting the 201 in the 1845. My questions are: 1. The 201 engine is rated at 65HP. Will this cause problems for a 1845 model with a drive train, pumps, chains etc. made for a 49 HP engine? As a point of comparison the 1845C had 60HP. 2. The governor on the 201 is an external belt driven model as opposed to the original internal governor on the 159 that ran off a gear on the camshaft. Will the belt driven governor work OK in the operation of a skid steer? 3. Are there any other problems that any of you can foresee with this engine swap? Thanks to any and all for responses. I really appreciate it! 80acres

I see no issue with the larger engine, if the mounts are the same, i say go for it.

Was the original engine gas or diesel? If it was a diesel the hydraulic pump might be limited to 2400 rpm or so. A gas engine might spin too fast for the pumps.
