Good Day All! I just bought an old skid steer, but so far most everything I was told about it was wrong. Even the book I got with it was wrong. On this forum I was able to find out to remove the right side gear / chain cover and the number was on the top between the front top bolt and the next one back. Calling Bobcat wasn't a bunch of help, didn't want to waste their time with such an old machine. So the number I have is 71182 is there a way to find out the model, year or any other info I'll need to do the repairs it needs? Thanks ALL in advance! Steve

It's a 1970 (possibly '71) M-600………..when talking to a Bobcat parts man, give them the number 4976-M-71182 ……hopefully they will be a little more receptive.

Thanks a TON!! I'm sure that will help! For being that old (46 years) it seems to be in pretty Healthy machine. What does the "4976" mean? I assume the M is for Melroe.

I'm not sure what the numbers represent. They used a 5 digit number for the M-600 beginning with about 60000 and ending above 7500 and that is all that is stamped on the machine but when ordering or doing research on the machine they want the entire 4976-M-xxxxx. On the M-610 they went to a 6 digit number that all began with a 2 and then the same thing…… they placed 4956 in front of the 6 digit number when ordering or researching while they only stamped the six digits on the machine. In 1976 they changed it back to a 5 digit number but stamped the entire number on the ID plate……..so, from 1976 on the ID plate of any M-610 will read 4956-M-xxxxx
