I have an S175 I rebuilt recently. New seals in lift and tilt cylinders. The lift leaks down quickly. But only in certain elevations. For example, at about 6” up in holds fine. Maybe 2’ up it holds. But in other places it drops. My thinking is corrosion inside the lift tubes versus a control valve? This one has door controls.

Your logic seems sound; if it was the valve it would leak down throughout the range, same with a bad piston seal.
Pitting in the cylinder would explain why it does it only in those ranges, unfortunately if it's pitted bad enough to leak this much it probably can't be cleaned up with a hone. And to add insult to injury it will probably eat up the new piston seals and just get worse.

I agree I had a bad place in my backhoe stick cylinder , the hydro shop was able to clean it up with a hone. I have never had water contamination ,they said it was a scratch what caused it I do not have a clue.
