Good morning! I have a 743 that I picked up from a local farmer for a great price (in this neck of the woods) and now looking to pick up a 909 attachment. The guy is willing to take $1000 Cdn for it (so like $55 US) and it looks in great shape except for the seat and one itsy problem... one of the swing cylinder barrels is supposedly cracked. Now, before I dig into this one I'm looking to see if I can source a new (or preferably used) one, otherwise I will have to fabricate one from scratch and not particularly interested in that (although I have the tools to do it). I'll have the old one magpart inspected to verify that it is indeed cracked. Does anyone know anyone or any place in north America that sells used 909 parts or have a parts attachment buried in their backyard? Any leads or assistance would be GREATLY appreciated! Ted.

I don't think you'll have much luck getting a used cylinder, depends on where the crack is, if it's the join at the base, you can just grind it out and weld it back up. I had a lift cylinder wear at a weld, ground it out and welded it, never missed a beat.
It would be unusual for the cylinder to split down the side, so hopefully it's in a location you can have success welding it.

From what the PO has told me, it's right at the open end of the barrel where the two tabs are. I couldn't see it, so it's either a hairline fracture or ? I know that they are cast steel, not iron and weldable, but if I have to work with the polished insides for a cylinder bore, welding is likely not an option. On another note... I did manage to find a guy in LA on craiglist parting out backhoe attachments...

You did well finding someone parting out backhoe attachments, never knew they existed.
A crack at the gland end will be more of a challenge. As you noted, getting the inside smooth again will not be an easy task. The thing is, even if you did have to get in there and tidy up metal that has created a bump inside when welding up the crack, it may not be a deal breaker.
On a regular cylinder, you woulnd't be using it at full extension, but if you are talking about the swing cylinder, any by-pass you get, i think will leak out of it's the type of cylinder i'm thinging of (the same style as the old hoe i have). If it's double acting, it will just by-pass a little internally.

Has anyone had experience with this guy in LA? https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/hvo/d/torrance-bobcat-backhoe-attachments/6916174201.html
