Bobcat 853 Starter/flyhwheel woes..

I am about at my wits end with this thing. I need it up and running ASAP! The first starter went out and it took the flywheel ring gear out with it. I pulled the flywheel and put a new ring gear on it. I ordered it from the local Whitestar in Tulsa. Installed everything with a new starter and the starter is dragging like no other. Pulled the starter and it looks like the starter is too close to the flywheel. There are marks in the bendix from where it engaged. The ring gear is installed correctly, I double and triple checked it. The ring gear is the correct one, and the starter guy is telling me its the right one. I'm having my doubts that they gave me the correct starter. It has the Isuzu engine in it. Would someone be so kind as to send me a picture of their starter so I can compare. Thanks!

Maybe the wrong number of teeth on the starter ? --- still got the original one or did it go for a core ? --believe the numbers or either 10 or 12 teeth on a 25 MT

As fishfiles said the bendix drive could be wrong. They come in different numbers of teeth and diameters. Did you check the engine adapter plate when you had the flywheel off? Adapter plates have been know to get loose or the locating dowels vibrate out and they cause starter problems. The outside look of the starter wont be enough to tell if it is right. Due to the way the weight is distributed by the engine mounts you might not be able to easily tell if the adapter plate is loose. I have in an odd ocassion seen a bad starter housing cause the problem (poor casting and machining of the bore). Just a few things to check.

Should be a 10 toothe 40mm gear
