I have a 520 that seems to run good, but bogs down under load. any ideas? Carb, or Gov? Has a K582 engine.

Does it smoke?
Have you checked the compression?
Compression on an older machine is the best place to start, when they get worn they will lose a lot of power.
Does it start easily?
Plus the usual, check points, mechanical advance (if fitted) leads, plugs, cap.

I am in the process of checking all of those items. Do you know the spec # for the engine? I know it is a K 582 but what's the rest of the # . I can't read mine. Thank for the input I will post more later.

Sorry, i have no ideas on the engine specs. COmpression should be around 120 PSI i'd guess, pretty sure thats about the range for a petrol/gas engine.
If it has a mechanical govenor, i hear sone have their own oil. Some times the weights inside can rust up and not govern the speed, which could be your problem too.

I uploaded the service manual for the Kohler K582 here.

It should have the info you need.

Thanks for the info. I was looking for the spec # for the engine. It is a K582-####### this will get the exact motor when you look up parts. They made about 50 versions of the k582 for several years. If someone has a BobCat 520 they cpold get the spec # on the engine tag. Mine cannot be read. I checked the points they were about .010 I adjusted to .020 and it runs great. Except Ive got the Carb out of adjustment. Theis is a great website.
