My new to me used Bobcat 30C Auger (from a gov auction, so who knows how many years it sat unused) blew the seals a few hours into shaving stumps for it's 1st outing. Was leaking oil all down the drive shaft, so I need to change the seals. My question then, is it safe to heat the motor to the 500 degrees necessary to break the red Loctite holding the bolts connecting the motor to the shaft? I only got 1 out with an impact wrench. I soaked them with brake cleaner for a few hours and got one more. So heating to 500 appears to be the only option. On the one hand, it seems like it has to be ok or you can't get it apart, on the other, I have a hard time believing I won't damage something else with all that heat. Or do they assume you are going to replace every rubber part when it's apart? And going back together, does it really need red Loctite?

once you get the bolts out I guess you could locktite in studs with holes on the ends and use castle nuts and safty wire them ,or regular lock nuts or even double nutting, depends on how much clearance you have. but you will have to judge about heat on internal seals when you do it. roll that dice. augh man snake eyes.

I got the outside surface temp up to 750 degrees F, and no luck. I'll be traveling but will get more aggressive next week on it. There are lots of extra bolt holes, so worst case I cut them all off and use fresh holes. I may do that anyway, then I don't have to worry about damaging the motor.

It does work, but I have to heat the outside surface until it glows. And even that isn't hot enough always. 5 out, 3 to go. I'm going for 2 next to each other, then letting it cool to avoid heating the motor too much.
