863 Deutz convert to 3-53 Detroit Deisel?

I have a 99 863 with a blown 3 cylinder Deutz turbo diesel that cost an arm and a leg to repower especially since I put a hole in my block. I found a rebuilt Detroil Deisel 3-53 for a fraction of a remanned Deutz. Anyone have any experience or know if a retrofit like this is feasible or should I stick with putting back in the original Deutz?
