i have an f series 763. fuel gauge does not work. does anyone know where the fuel sender is on this machine. does anyone know what socket size is for sender.
Start with the gauge. Ground the sender wire on gauge, if the needle moves its probably your gauge, if not its the sender.
The sender is on the fuel tank. Lift the cab, look under the pump, you will see it stuck under there somewhere with two wires hanging out of it.

The sender is on the opposite side of the tank as the fill. I have never been able to find a wrench that works on the plastic sender"nut". I use slip joint pliers. On the 763 you will need to disconnect a couple of hydraulic hoses to get the sender out, but it is do-able without moving or removing the pumps. Like Tazza said, test the guage first....a short jumper across the 2 wires at the sender should move the needle to full.

If you short the two wires at the sender and it reads full, the gauge is good. If it doesn't, its the gauge or wiring between there and the gauge or the gauge. I short the pins at the gauge then you know. Ensure you ONLY ground it, if you apply power here, you will burn the gauge out.
