743 Motor Carrier Seal

Hey guys, I have a 1985 743 that has the infamous overfull chain case due to hydraulic fluid being pumped in via the motor carrier seal. I've done some searching online and the only motor carrier seal I can find appears to be a 743B seal, part #6705847. Is it the same seal for the 743? If not, does someone have the part # for the 743 seal? Thanks in advance!

the 743 and 743B have a different drive motor setup. The 743 has a reduction box that the motor bolts to, the seal in in here. The 743B has a motor carrier and no reduction box.
Talk to your local dealer, they will tell you what part number you need.

Thank Tazza, you are correct. Unfortunately, my local dealer was no help unless I could provide the part numbers. Luckily I was able to find a copy of the parts manual for the 743. For future reference, the parts needed are: 6513588 (reduction box seal), 6515195 (quad seal, behind the washer) and 25K030508B (o-ring). Not all of these necessarily need to be replaced but seeing I'm in there anyway ...

Good call on the parts to replace, it's a shame your dealer was so help..... It's dealers like that that give others a bad name. Most are happy to help where they can, as you will be buying parts off them and they want to get the right ones.

You'd think that'd be the case, it means $ after all. It's not that they weren't friendly, just unhelpful with parts for the 743. The service department mechanic tried to help, but his knowledge of early model bobcats was limited, although he had some more generic tips for me.

I can understand that there won't be as much knowledge from the techs as it is an older machine, still, parts are all on their computers, a few clicks and BOOM there are the numbers required.
