Hi All. Just found this forum trying to find some info for my 743. I blew a hydraulic hose the other day and have been having a hard time finding which one. Had oil everywhere. First I thought it was the pressure hose from the vane pump to the hydro control valve but after removing it I could not find where it was bad. I kept looking and I believe the hose that blew was the one that runs from the port block to the bottom of the control valve. THE VERY BOTTOM! My question is "How the heck do you get to it???" Do I have to remove all of the tubes on the control valve above it to get to it?? Is there any other way to remove it? I looked in an 843 service manual but they seem to be different than a 743. Also, is it possible to push or tow my 743 without it running with the hydro system down? I have an exmark zeroturn and it has valves located at the pump that can be opened it the mower needs to be pushed. Does the 743 have anything like that? Any help is appreciated! Paul.

Just fixed my 743 have a idea what might have let loose
I am trying to post a page from a 743 parts manual but I am having no luck. The hose is on page 99 of the 743 parts manual and it is part # 28. I will keep trying to post the diagram.

On the 743 there are two steel lines that cross just behind the engine that fail (just replaced mine) had to pull the engine rad , oil cooler and shoud not as hard as you would think and replaced the two steel lines that cross I also replaced the steel line in the shroud it was pitted all for a hundred bucks replace ujoints while your in there

The hose you mention that goes from the port block to the bottom of the control block is prone to leaking. Sorry, there is no easy way of accessing it. I think others have managed by cutting down a spanner to get it to fit then using a hammer to crack it.
Be preapared for a lot fo swearing and lost skin from your kunckles.
Every time i have done this repair, i removed the control block from the machine, a large job....

I worked on it a little more today and I am leaning torward removing the control block. When you do that do you just leave the steel lines where they are or do you totally remove them? Looks like all I need to do is disconnect the linkage, disconnect the 8 lines that go to the block, disconnect the leaking line at the port block, and remove the 2 mounting bolts, then sneak the block out past the steel lines. Does this sound right? Any other tips that you can provide? I am doing this outside right now but I would like to push it inside. Will it move if I try to push it? Thanks! Paul.

I had to pull my engine to change my steel lines that were leaking and was still tight don't think I could get i there to pull the valve box with the engine in to get mine to move I pulled the lines off my drive motors to drain the fluid and pulled the drive motors moved easy just make sure you keep the crap out

Whan i did mine, the engine was out, so the tube lines went out too for painting.
There is a possibility that you may be able to gain enough access with the engine out. Taking the engine out isn't too hard of a job, far less than removing the tube lines and oil.
