743 drive shaft

so i replaced my V1702 with a V1902 awhile back maybe a year and of course now i read about the drive shaft U-joints. I greased them when i was in there as well as the yoke that slide onto the crank shaft of the motor (it stuck on the old motor and was almost a show stopper had to cut the fan shroud to get in there and pry it apart) now i am concerned as i should have just replaced them when i was in there any good indicator of there health like can i grab the motor and rock it back and forth to feel for slop or something? thank you!

you can put your hand on the joints and have a helper you trust rotate the engine, just rock it slightly each way and if there is much play at all you will feel it move and shift as he/she does that.

I would have replaced them if they go it can cost more than the cat is worth you can get them at loaderpartsource for a 100 bucks

The only way to know for sure is to pull the engine and check them. I had one that seemed ok, but there was vibration. When i had it out, there was one drection it would not move in. The needles had fused together.
I actually have a 743 that i have been working on, i need to pull the engnine to be sure it's right, but keep putting it off :)

You can usually tell that their no good when they start squeaking and throwing sparks off of them!!!! That's always a good indicator of wear!!!
