I finally found time to get my machine back at home today. We had replaced the axel seals and bearings over the last few weeks and all is well from the seal replacement. 0 I do have a new issue with the left steering lever where it feels softer that the right control. Aldo when I raise the boom i head a moaning type sound coming from the left side. I did not have any of these problems before we worked on the axel seals.Should I think this is air in the system or do I have a serious problem thanks for all of your help. with out this forum I would own a large stationary pile of metal that at one time was a skid steer. The knowledge on this forum is unbelievable.

I believe the lift problem is just air, the drive should be the same though, it could be pump wear but as it was working before you removed it, it should be the same.
If you can give it a bit more time to finish bleeding the air. You can also check for foam in the oil tank, if its foamy you have air in the system still.

Im not sure what the 743 layout is but look close at any suction line you could have disturbed while working on the seals. I have worked on hyd systems where there was a loose or bad connection on a suction line causing a little air to be sucked into the pump all the time. When you shut down the 'leak' allows fluid to drain back into the case so it usually does not leak so you may not notice as fast as other leaks.

Latest update. Worked the machine this past weekend and the noise is still there but seems to come and go. It is the worst when you raise the lift arms. One thing that was weird was the right side seemed to be really hard to hold forward going up a hill and the left side seemed considerable easier but it seemed to level out the longer it was ran. I changed the short water hose on top of the V-1702 engine this evening and let the motor idle to check for leaks. I could hear a little thump in the hydro every now and then. The machine was sitting still at low rpm idle with the brake on but not loading the pump. The other bit of good news is we adjusted the creep out by reversing the pucks when we did the axle seals. I guess I will still run it to try to work all of the air out. I just wanted to run the progress by the folks here in the forum.

Are you sure you have enough fluid in there? Going up hill could make it all slosh away from the pickup if the level was low same thing with the arms up there would be less fluid in the tank. What does the pickup look like? Is it possible there is a crack or something in the tube so its sucking some air if the level is slightly low but its covered as long as the level is at its max?

I have a 7/8th full bubble in the glass on the side of the machine. As far as I can tell it has enough fluid in the reservoir. I have heard of problems in the fuel tank where the pick up tube sucks shut but I have not heard of it happening in the hydro tank.

The pick up is on the side on mine. I dont think there would be a tube going into the tank. probably has a nipple to connect the suction hose to. It could have a loose clamp or fittiing that would allow it to suck air. It would probably also leak.Mike

Sorry, I see 73Eldo already covered this. I have seen fuel lines that sucked air when running but didnt leak. I dont know if you could have that situatioon with your pump. Mike

I'm really not sure, you mention one steering stick fights you when going up a hill more than the other. Is that the stronger or weaker side? if you even notice that you have a strong or weak side.
Air i guess could be drawn in, but shouldn't cause the problems you have with the sticks fighting you. I assume you have re-checked the bronze filter? technically you can run the machine without it, but I'd still like to see it go back in, if it was plugged again it would cause the oil to foam up.

Tazza I have not done anything with the bronze filter. Does my machine have one and where would it be located. We didn't see it when we removed and reinstalled the filter.

I can't remember what type of port block setup you have. Does it have the large square block on top of the hydraulic pump? Or does it have the big fat hose that connects to an aloy housing on the right side of the machine? If it has the large black hose you do not have a bronze filter. If you have the square block you have a filter.

I have the large black hose that connects to the right side of the machine. I think my steering could be play in the left control lever. Looking under the cab tonight it seems to be not as firm as the right hand side. For the pump noise it is getting better, I believe it might just be air. I guess I am a Bobcat "Hypochondriac".

LOL not at all! You understand that some sounds could be the machine causing damage, its better that you check these things out first.
If you have the big hose you have no filter.
With the tight steering, it could be as simple as the nylon guides that are on the side of the pump. The pressed metal slide that rubbs on them can get a little sticky and be hard to move. When i changed mine, they were a little tight and when dirt/dust gets in it gets a little stiff. I give it a quick squirt of inox and they move free as. Hopefully yours could be the same. Ensure your levers where the rod runs through as a pivot is greased too, it could be binding there.

Thanks Tazza. I am far better off now after replacing the 4 wheel seals, cups and bearings. We also replaced the hydro fluid and changed out all the fuel lines for new. It was just a month ago that I had oil leaking everywhere from my left rear wheel. I could not have done it without your help and guidance and really appreciate it. I plan on keeping this one a while. They are a pretty tough made machine with just a few quirks!!

Remember you did all the work! i just advided you of how i did things.
Glad you have the axle seals sorted though. Good idea to swap the hydro fluid when the pump was out too.
