Hello all, First off I would like to say I've almost got my machine back in order thanks to you guys, after my glow plug catastrophy. My question is on aftermarket block heaters. I read back through forums and someone had mentioned the heater goes in the head on the top left corner?? I see where there is a plug there but I have only seen ones for either the heater hose or freeze plug replacement style?? I would like to install one while I have my air filter housing off and water drained but where, what style, what works good, and how many watt. Lots of questions but I know you guys are up for the challenge. All input is appreciated. Oh I have the V-1702 if anyone didnt already gather that. Thanks alot

Check this out:

I would get a 1500 watt and put on a timer to kick on about three hours before you start up in the a.m.
Or get the 1000 watt and leave it on all night.
I like the tank-types in a 743 cause there's some room to mount in and they recirculate.
If it's REALLY cold, consider another stick-on oil pan heater like this:

That's my two cents, good luck.
I have the frost plug style. But they are 400 watts, Works good in my 773 down to about -20f
its in the one end of the head. Below those temps it tends to fire on only one cylinder for several revolutions before the other cylinders begin to join in. Believe this is because the heat is in one end of the engine. If you search "zero start" they have online catolog for most engines and info on install locations.
I believe the frost plug style wastes less heat because its right in the block.
