I recently got a Bobcat 732 off of a buddy of mine, The guy i got it off of says after a while of running the bobcat it stops moving. We havent experienced this yet cause we havent done nothing with it yet. but when i ran it the other day it did seem sluggish, and made a loud whining noise when turning and would barely turn.. also could not put pressure on the bucket (wouldnt lift the wheels of the bobcat). We were told there is a new hydraulic pump and valve body in it, and that the hydraulics system was never flushed properly and could be chips in it. I have been reading around and heard about the bronze filter, what is this? and what other things should i be looking for? Could i keep changing the hydraulic filter till it stops cycling chips through it, or catch the chips with a magnet in the hydraulic tank?
 
This is an easy one.
Lift the cab, well more like lift it off, anyway get the cab off. On top of the hydraulic pump there will be a square block with about 6 lines going into it, this is called your port block. The 3 hoses on the left, remove the middle hose and the fitting, behind the fitting is a bronze filter. This filter hardly every gets cleaned or replaced as no one knows its there!
Pull it out and give it a clean with diesel or replace it.
If the filter is blocked, it will squeal when trying to drive and a loss of power.

We took the filter out, and cleaned it with parts cleaner and blew it out. put it back in but still have a screeching noise when driving and cant get up small hills, and cant turn (barely at all, i have to take it reaaal wide) The hydraulics seem to work fine since we replaced the hydraulic filter and added new fluid. i ran it for about a 2 hours today and the only problem was that it really had no power (to go up small hills, and dig/push into a pile of dirt) and wont turn good at all. Going straight the bobcat ran fine, but once again turning left or right and going up hills or digging when power is needed it doesnt have it.

sorry for the double post. but i have to add that the power loss is NOT after it warms up, its right away no turning power and no uphill power. thanks.

and one more question, there is a middle pedal in the bobcat, our service manual says its called the "hydraulic control pedal", Can somebody tell me what this is for and does? how should i use it.

Likely rough brass plates in the hydro pump. or worn out wheel motors. Both sides act the same though? because the drives are separte side to side, thought the hydros are housed in the same unit, Tazza knows these well.
The middle pedal controls oil flow to the aux hyd couplers on the boom, some loaders had the valve and pedal but not the lines to the booms with couplers

that pedal should be parking brakes Is it connected to a lever on the top of the case behind it? if it is the side closest to you gets pushed down for off if the plates in the pump are worn it will act that way they can be fixed with some elbow grease and sand paper I have done it as well as Tazza check the brakes and let us know....Jeff

Could you fill the filter with diesel or solvent and it would run out? It *could* be the filter is too blocked to be able to be simply cleaned. They are only cheap from the dealer.
If that doesn't fix it, it sounds like the swash plates are worn and need to be flattened again. This can be done easily enough. Its a bit odd for BOTH sides to loose power at the same time, thats why i still think its a filter issue. Being such a *vintage* machine, it would do with a touch up of the swash plates.

a TEMPORARY check would be to remove the filter and try the machine at least you would know if it was totally blocked don't run the machine long without it if the issue is still there its not the filter...........good luck

I am going to buy a new bronze filter monday, but obvious this isnt the problem, i still want to get a new one cause its so old. Now Tazza or somebody, could you give me some more information about these "swash plates" or "brass plates"? IE: where they are located, how to get to them easily, and what to do.. It would be real nice if there was a diagram somewhere online or that you could fax to me. Monday i will check for air in the system and if possibly take sand paper to the swash plates. Down the bottom it shows you the swash plates, your pump is a Vickers TA1919 which internally looks pretty close to the Sauer Sunstrand shown in the pictures. Work on one side at a time!
You will need to pull the pump for this, no way around it sorry.
With the pump out, you need to separate the sections. If you are careful not to disturb the rotating group it will be easier. There will be a steel plate with bronze fused to the face where the rotating group runs. This should be where your problem is. Pop the plate off the valve section, oil may be holding it in place but it will pop off. Get a sheet of glass and a few sheets of wet and dry sand paper. Lay the wet and dry on the glass, starting off fairly course and wet the wet and dry with oil rub the plates in like a figure 8. I did small circles but you must rotate the plate to get it even, you don't want to wear down one side more than the other. When the score marks (hopefully they are small) are gone, go down to a finer grade. Clean it all off with solvent and flow down with air. Re-install with lots of oil. There is a locating pin so you can only put the plate in one way.
Hopefully that has cleared it up a bit.

the front and rear plates are different be sure not to mix them up it really only looks bad its harder to remove the pump than to fix the plates in my opinion you can get detailed pics at Eaton's website ta1919v10 is the Eaton number I think the only parts breakdown from them is a ta1919v1010 it is the same pump with a double hydraulic pump ours only have a single hydraulic pump but the drive pump is the same I have the breakdown and could send it email if you like....Jeff

I have a Bobcat 732 with the exact same problem. Though mine still has a little more power. I was having problems with it dying when it got warm, but I cleaned out the carburetor and it that seems to have resolved that issue. I would love to know if you resolve the issue of the noise when turning as I am having that issue as well.

Have you checked your filter in the port block? Laft side where the 3 hoses go in, the middle one is what you want. Remove the hose and the fitting, check the filter. Clean or replace it, if you still have a lack of power you may have worn swash plates or weak motors.
