Hello, I just bought a 731 that has a right drive issue. It groans fairly loud when you try to get it to drive. I tore the drive motor down, and it looks fine inside, with the exception of the spring loaded valve at the bottom had a broken spring. I replaced all the parts in there with new, and a new seal kit, but the problem didn't change. The motor had very few scratches on the rotating surfaces inside. The bone shaped gear looked like new. I replaced the main filter, and cleaned the one in the line block (saw it in another post on here) middle line (it was clean already) Any one have any suggestions? Are these drive motors common to fail? If yes, any ideas on where to find a used one, or good recomendation for a rebuilder? Thanks, Rod

As you have worked over the motor I'm afraid that it could be the pump section for that side. You can still get parts and they aren't THAT expensive, still not really cheap. It could be that the surfaces of the valve plate for that side is too worn allowing the the fluid to by-pass. These can be worked with a sheet of glass and wet and dry sand paper.
If you swap motors from the good to bad side and see if the problem moves, this will confirm if its a pump or motor issue. If the problem does not move you know its the pump.
You can talk to Levi at www.skidoaderpumps.com he has all these parts available and is happy to give advise, i have personally dealt with him as have others on the forum.
The internals of the pump isn't that complicated either, just watch how you pull it down and ensure it all goes in the same way.

Thanks for the info ..... I wasn't sure if the drive motors were the same side to side. I will try that first to isolate the problem, and go from there. I'm glad I foung this site, the local Bobcat dealer isn't very helpful. Rod

The motors are the same, just the location of the fitting are different angles.
Its a shame your dealer isn't helpful, my local dealer is pretty good, as is one that isn't quite so local :)

Just a thought but you might want to check your stone filter "charge filter" it will affect your drive and I have seen many affect one side only for some reason and I would bet it has not been changed in quit some time. 6558357 is the pn for it and it is less than $20, cheap insurance in my opinion and alot easier than tearing down that pump.

Ersok - thats a good point, that filter does cause a LOT of troubles for people that don't know its there. He actually mentioned he cleaned the filter and it was spotless.
Usually when that filter gets plugged it causes problems for both sides as well, massive drop in power and it screams when you try to move.
From your comment, i assume you have been caught before too i know i was!

I did check that stone filter, and it looked spotless, so I cleaned it good.... blew it out with high pressure air and reinstalled it. The one in the middle of the line block......is there any more hidden ones? I still haven't had time to work on it yet, to swap the motors, but hope to soon, so I can isolate the problem. Thanks again, Rod

That is the only hidden filter.
When you get time to fiddle, do let us know how you go.

Sorry I missed that, I found this forum while at work today and skimmed over the thread. although a growling hydrostatic noise is rarely a motor it never hurts to check. usually a motor will just bypass oil and feel soft or slugish like stated in another thread about the motor seals being bad.

I had a 753 like that, would drive ok on the flat but refused to go up a hill, it would just groan a little, no resistance on the lever. The seals inside were like powder!

I finally got a chance to switch the drive motors side to side. The problem didn't change. So the next step is the controller the drive levers hook to ....... just a guess here. Does anyone have a blow up picture of this to help me in the tear down and repair of this? Hints? Thanks, Rod

I assume it does this is both forward and reverse?
Hopefully its just wear on the valve plate, this can be repaired with a sheet of wet and dry and a sheet of glass. It will take some time to get it all the scratches out, but it can be done.
If you need any pointers just give me a yell.

Well, I finally got back to this project .... I took the pump off for the right drive, and the waffer plate and the cylinder block are both pretty chewed up ..... took to the local repair shop, and they guy said he has never seen one so bad/rough. :( Any ideas on where to get parts to fix this? They showed no listing at the dealer for the parts I need .... and the old price sheet said over $1,000 for the parts .... Thanks, Rod
