I'm looking at buying an older 642B, thinking it an early 90's. Gas engine, not sure what make. It needs a starter from what I have been told. Other than that it is supposed to run well. Just curious if anyone has any pros & cons on this model that I should be aware of? I'm looking forward to fixing it up this summer. Thanks! M.

www.loaderpartssource.com has starters and alternators for sale. I haven't ever driven a 642B but I have heard they aren't that bad. The drive pump should be the Vickers and those aren't too bad to work on. Drive motors are pretty easy to replace as well. Parts are still very readily accessible especially through aftermarket places like Loader Parts Source which means cheaper repairs than some other models.
