I recently purchased a1990 642B bobcat. After adjusting a few things and replacing a few small parts the bobcat was ready to work. While using the unit to dig I noticed that oil was coming out of the front chain case cover. I guess it was not sealed the last time it was removed. I have a service manual that explains the chain case, but leaves out what type of fluid to use and how to determine if the reservoir is full............................I have searched the forum and have not seen this info. Can anyone help me??.................Thank you.

Thank you.......Great help.
In order for the oil to be high enough in the chaincase to leak from the top cover I would suspect that one of the drive motors is leaking into the chaincase. Pull the fill plug on the front of the chaincase and see if its way over filled. The older machines didn't have a fill plug and you had to pull the front cover to drain and fill.

See this post about a overfull 642 chaincase.

At the time the fluid leaked from the front of the reservoir I was traversing a very steep incline in reverse. All of the fluid moved to the front of the Bobcat. I don't believe the reservoir is over filled, I will check to make sure. Thanks for the help. Always appreciated.
