632 melroe bobcat jerky ( wild ) controls

Help Support SkidSteer Forum:

How far are you from a Bobcat dealer? The parts guys I have dealt with are very helpful and can look at that picture and see what it is. Is it possible someone put a pump system in from another type machine? How big is your investment in this machine? I am thinking you may have to change a few things in there to make it operate good. Using salvage parts and your own time it may be worth it. My 632 was very smooth operating and quiet after many hours of my time and minimal cost. In our area in good condition they are asking about $6000 for a 632 but I don't think they are getting over $5000 if that. good luck Jerry
Thanks Old Machinist for the picture move, I"ll have to learn to do that.

Jerry just right click and copy the picture and then right click and paste in the post. As long as the image is hosted on the web someplace it will work.

The guys i spoke to at the bobcat dealership laughed and said my 632 was older then anyone that worked there, so i dont think they will be much help. As for did someone combine two bobcats thats what i was wondering by looking at the pic jerry posted but when i look at the diagram Tazza posted from the manual it looks like mine , the thing that is confusing me is looking at the diagram below the shafts that operate flow ( colored green ) are on the top of my unit in the one jeeey posted it looks like they are on the side of the unit. Also where ive drawn an arrow pointing towards a piece in the linkage that has been cut shortened then re welded.

Definitely looks like a 'frankenstein' machine. I see the linkages have been swapped side to side and one added to with an extra piece of steel. No ideas on what the pumps are from but as long as the pumps are mounted securely and the linkages have minimal slop you can probably get to adjust to neutral. As far as wild operation after that is anyone's guess....the flow rates and pressures could be way off spec for what the drive motors were designed for.

I don't think that is a factory pump setup..... It looks totally alien to me, sorry.
Its... just no where near what the others look like. Appears the previous owner installed a different pump.
The other thing that jumps out at me is i can see the fins on the fly wheel. There should be a shroud around them to direct the air up through the radiator and oil cooler. You sure do have a unique machine there.

Unique is not the correct term messed the f up is the term. At work today i figured out a few things one the pump 1 and pump 2 housing are either mounter 90 degrees out or they arent the original pumps. No wonder i noticed so many home made parts the linkages are completely swapped and the controls should be on the right side not the top , unfortunately when i get home now its dark and cold so working on this thing is limited. However i did snap a few pics of the whole thing tonight that hopefully ill be able to upload tomorrow ( usb cable at work ) before i tear into this thing to far is anyone aware of pumps that are 90 degrees out that will mount to a 632? or is it possible to mount the pumps 90 degrees out which is what im wondering if it isnt the case. Or even better is there someplace i could look for a serial number or manufacturer of the pumps that might be stamped into them and im missing it because of the oil and build up. Btw guys so far you have save me hours trying to figure out what is going on and thank you, i wondered what the indention was on the one control arm from the start given its not serving a purpose.

The pump it should have is a vickers TA1919 V20 (pretty sure its a V20 at the end) Either way, that part is just the hydraulic pump, the rest is the drive.
You mention pumps being 90 degrees out? are you talking how they are sitting? as thats not an issue how they sit. The vickers pumps have the linkages on the side, the later model Sunstrand have the controls on the top.

Tazza if im understanding you correctly this thing may not be as messed up as i thought, but its still a frankenloader. Where i was saying its like the pumps are 90 degrees out you can see from the picture below what im talking about. The controls are on the top instead of the side like they are in the manuals if im understanding you correctly someone may have cobbled two bobcats into one using the old machine that was setup for a vickers and replacing them with a sunstrand. Ive drawn a 1 with an arrow pointing towards where someone shortened the linkage bar, the number 2 points to a bracket that i can clearly tell someone has made, and 3 points to the linkages , notice they are swapped the short one is on the outside not the inside. The bend in the long linkage for clearance when nothing was there to clear had me wondering in the beginning but the diagrams and pics people posted helped me figure it out. See what i mean by the pumps look 90 degrees out the controls are on the top and all other pics or diagrams show them on the side.

What you really need then is a few pictures from the book on a machine that uses that pump then you see where it should be changed. Looking at that pile of hoses the guy that did that was either a genius or insane

Well im going 50/50 on the insane versus genius thing because the bobcat does actually move , not really correctly but it does move. A man might be able to get used to the controls but its far from being safe or even close ive almost thrown myself out twice and i almost took the side of my barn out just moving it. Anyway a clue to the mystery guts is on the front of the first pump it has a little r and a big 7 side by side and possibly another character but i cant make it out. Im now wondering if it is really a sticky valve issue or if its an issue of not enough pressure to operate the drives. They squel a bit when you try to engage them not a high pitch squel but a noise much like the new bobcats when you forget to take them out of park or engage the safety switch.

Looking at it again i see exactly what you mean. I think the pump is correct, but it has been turned for some odd reason. The centring plate is on top instead of the right side. The pintle arms are upside down as they should face upwards not down if you were to turn it so the plate was on the right. I believe the pump segments can be rotated easily ehough so you can fix that.
It looks like it has a gear pump instead of a vane thats factory, there was an option for a gear pump though.
So yeah, i don't think the mess is as bad as i first thought. But why would he/they change the pump setup? it seems rather odd to me.

only thing i can think of is he had pumps from something else because look below the front pintle and you can see a hose coming into the side. I he had it roatated correctly the hose would be on the top same thing on the rear pumps maybe there wasnt enough clearance for a 90 fitting.

After two cans of degreaser i finally found a name and model number on the back pump seems they are eaton pumps there are 3 possible numbers that could be the model but im searching eatons site now.

Well heres an update to the ole frankenloader, the reason the plumbing and controls look all wrong is its not the guts of a 632 bobcat, its the guts of a john deer 260 or 270 loader jammed into a 632 bobcat shell. I guess now its time to start a thread asking about info on the john deer guts.

Shes a Johncat!

Hi all, Excuse my intrusion in this particular thread but after reading it, it seems you guys really know what you are talking about and maybe you can help. I am in Newfoundland, Canada and am having trouble finding parts.....Right now I really need a drive belt for my 1968 Melroe m600. Any suggestions where I can source this out? Thanks, Cal

Sorry, its a totally different machine. Yours is mechanical, the 632 is hydrostatic so the issues are totally different.
