I have a 1978 Bobcat 632 with the ford industrial 4-98 gas engine in it. I had a mechanic tell me there is an electronic distributor that will drop in that was made for an automobile, but he did not know which engine to look for when going to the wrecking yards. Can anyone tell me what electronic distributor will drop right in and work in this engine?

You can get everything to convert it from NAPA. Personally I have never done it, but a lot of guys have done it.

Mallory marine dist for what? do you have a part number? I can figure out the wiring! are we talking about an electronic distributor?
Update to the Distributor I now have. Today I attempted to start the bobcat and the wire from the positive to the distributor smoked and got red hot. Is there any one out there that can tell me what year and model car electronic distributor would fit this 632 ford industrial gas engine?

found several things out today. A ford fiesta electronic distributor will not work without the control module and a wiring diagram to set it all up. O'Rilies autoparts has an igniter kit for 164.00 that turns your points distributor to an electronic distributor. I had the condenser lead grounded and bypassing the points. got spark now. simple fix.

Running is far better than smoking wires :)
Good to hear you are sorting it out.
