My newly acquired 610 desperately needs an oil change among other things. It's been sitting inside my late uncles barn for atleast 35+ years. It got used very little some years not at all.
Anyway it's possible my uncle hasn't changed the oil in over 20+ years. I know he hasn't done it for atleast the last 15.
It's a Wisconsin VF4D, starts right up but I'm going over the whole thing. The lift and bucket tilt cylinders have just been rebuilt in the last 2 years + some new hoses.
My goal is to do engine oil plus filter, new hydraulic filter, new plugs, wires, cap /rotor /condenser (maybe coil?), new alternator and drive belts, New fuel pump.
Also new clutches and needed adjustment on the steering because it's real sloppy. None of the gauges or lights work but I was going to put a new hour meter and battery volt meter and LED light bars. And finally some new paint after that maintenance is done.
I will post pictures as I go mainly because I like to document my accomplishments and maybe help others.
My question is not knowing how long its been since oil was changed I thought of flushing the crankcase with some kerosene by adding some to the old oil and doing a quick engine turn over, then shut off and drain?
Would you guys do this or just drain and fill the engine? The filter is the old lift out basket type ( I have a new one).
Interested in all your thoughts
