Good morning, I'm new to this forum. I recently purchased a 610, and I'm not to proud to say that I overpaid for it. Didnt quite know what I was looking at and just bought it. Doesn't matter now, I'm going to get it running like a top. First thing wrong is the clutch levers have WAY too much play in them and right side forward drive is nonexistent. I have the manual and see that there is a way to adjust the clutches. Where do I buy clutches and replacement parts if things are worn out? Second, hydraulics quit working yesterday. They were VERY jerky when lifting a load and then quit altogether. I'm guessing my hydraulic fluid is low...if that isn't it, what else could it be? Let the questions begin. Thank you, Chris

those clutch parts are available, since it is new to you ,I would jack it off the ground remove the tires then pull off the side covers and inspect from there. The clutch adjustments are done from the 2 on each side large nut looking things. They were designed to use 10/30 engine oil in the hydro and drive system. I hope the variable belt trans. is good as those parts can be very tuff to find they have been NLA for a long time from bobcat. good luck

The hydraulic system uses 10/30 oil? Not hydraulic fluid?

They will have all the tips and tricks and best sources for parts.
yup 10/30 ,but I was told by the bobcat service manager that anything can be used, I use universal tractor fluid it is meant for gear transmissions and hydro systems but that stuff was not available when this machine was made or possibly it might have been used. I have a 500 bobcat it was first made in 1964. yours came just after . you can go to bobcat history page and see the production years yours was made.

Damn...I'm not on Facebook, and really don't want to be. Any other options?

I know what you mean about facebook ,I do not do them either. But I did get on cd a service manual from someone on ebay it was fairly cheap that covers the 500 and 600 series machines. It is of good quality. You might want to go that way until you find a group to old bobcat communicate with.

1) I started her up yesterday and the hydraulics worked, still jerky, but worked. The variable speed also worked. I adjusted the clutches and started it back up and the hydraulics didn't work anymore. Any ideas? Sounds like I need to just do some standard maintenance/inspection. Drain fluid, rinse with diesel to get out water, new 10w-30, new filter, check for leaks. 2) Where should I go to get cross reference part numbers for my skid steer. I have found a few cross references (oil filter, hydraulic fluid filter) but I need more. Any good sources? Thank you!

you can drain the cases but water should be in the bottoms so make sure you look closely when first opening the drains . If there is no water or excessive metal maybe the rinsing can be bypassed. Mine sometimes when I get on the pedals jerk ,I just get off of them and then try again and most times they are smooth out, I think some of it is how you position your feet on the pedals ,heels down do not use just your toe to activate the valves seems to help. as far as the filter goes the one in there should have numbers on it you should be able to cross it over from it. there is a guy www.filterbarn.com who has a x-cross over on his site ,I have bought from him before with good service. he usually has several filter choices in each filter type.

When excess water is in the hydraulic system, the pump will cavitate because the water can't take the pressure. What does that feel like when in the Bobcat? When I say the hydraulics jerk, it's not just the boom and bucket shaking, the entire Bobcat vibrates and shakes violently, practically jumping around. I would say that is the hydraulic pump cavitating. Wouldn't you?

I had similar issue with my M-500. I had air coming into the hydraulic system on the return (low pressure) side, it would shake like crazy when tilting or lifting bucket. My leak was a 1/8 in steel line going from a gauge to the hydraulic filter housing. I disconnected the line and put a 1/8 pipe plug in the filter housing and it cleared up the problem. May not be your problem but something cheap to check.

Thank you! I'll give that a look. It definitely sounds like what I am experiencing. Cheers!
