444, 500, 600 610 spring on driven sheeve

hi all, i have a question for any of you guys that have had this spring off one of these variable speed belt drive machines. how long is this spring when there is no pressure on it and how much force does it take to compress or push it down? I don't have a bobcat but i have a vary similar drive system on my machine and the spring that is on mine seems way too tough to be in this application. can some one that has had this spring loosened up on your machine, let me know about how long this spring is when it is not bolted in and how hard do you have to push on it to compress it, say an inch or something. I put 200 pounds on mine and only made it move not even an inch, and it stands nearly 9 inches long. I think this is way more spring than my drive belt can handle but i need some kind of ball park to find the correct spring. thansk for any and all help! i appreciate it. micheal

Depends on the design of the machine, could be correct. Never had the one off my 600, sold now, but its hefty. Springs usually get weaker with age too. I would think if there was a problem with the variable speed the little hydraulic system for it would be something to check into. Good luck.
