441 No lift

Hi guys, im helping a friend and need some experienced advice please. We are voluntarily fixing up a 441 for a real nice old guy , he helps every one but no one helps him. Any way, we got the 441 to run and the hydraulics are functional apart from up and down. You can drive back forward, round and round, tilt the bucket but it wont go up. Is there a safety valve or switch or something, the wiring on the old machine is a mess. We just spent a day cleaning it , looks nice now. Please assist, idea's answers, tip's anything. Sorry, it's an old post.
It could be a few things, safety lockout or bad cylinder seals.
If it tilts, that means the pump is working, does it have a lot of lifting power with the tilt? dig into a pile of dirt and tilt up, see if it lifts the bucket tip with a load of dirt.
