Been using the 2000/331 for about two months...dirt and rock work reubuilding an old spring house. Yesterday, rotated the load to drop a 100# building stone...load began to "free wheel" on the turret/super structure, i.e., cab and load freely rotated clockwise, and was unable to check load travel by reversing control lever. Not familiar with this side of the Bobcat...ie, turret rotation....any suggestions as to the issue(s)?

I take it that now you can't swing either way , so I say broken swing motor shaft or the swing shaft gear fell of the end of the shaft ----------------if you could still swing but it would stop when you let go of the joystick I'd say swing brake valves

I can rotate, without a load...left and right...crunching noise, as in unmeshed gear or broken metal and very little power. Letting go of the joy stick makes no difference in stopping, i.e., gravity is the determining factor of where it stops. Appears to be a full blown Bobcat dealer$hip issue... Thanks for the reply, much appreicated input out her on the Cumberland Plateau.

I have taken the swing motor out of 331 before and it is not really too bad , in the past I tried to match up the swing motor thru hydraulic venders and everything is exactly the same except the out put shaft , the cost would have been 1/3 of what Bocat wanted for it , I hope for your sake that the bottom bearing didn't fail and it damaged the teeth of the swing bearing from wobbling around , I trouble shot a 334 with a swing bearing problem a few weeks back and they took it to the dealer , $6,000 and 3 weeks later he got the machine back ----------- if the swing motor and swing bearing are both bad I could see it could be a $8,000 job , if just a new swing motor I would guess at least $2,000 , let us know how it turns out

No injury to insult as i hope u get it going but let me know if you part out that 331. I have one I need some parts for. Fishfiles you are right on target..the one I have Duhon did the work for the guy who had it before me and it was almost 8,000.00. Then the motor blew.

I might have a line on some used 331 parts that can help you get going. Let me know what you need and I will put you in touch with the guy. I don't know him personally but found a listing when I was shopping parts.

I know a guy that has a 334 that he has been scraping to keep his other 3 334's running , would think some parts would interchange with the 331 ,not sure if it would interchange but it has the swing motor assembly still in it as I seen it Thursday when I took off a travel motor , the motors blown but rebuildable , parts that are already gone are the tracks , rollers , idlers , one travel motor and both sprockets , the claw and bucket , dozer blade and a few other things , I know him well and he doesn't give things away cheap as he might need it one day , I'd bet anything he would sell would be 1/2 price of new ----------- sounds like your from the GNO area , CMB , mentioning Duhon's ------------

CMB/Fishflies... thanks for the comments/information...took the 331 to a shop on Thursday. Small shop, but the guy is two weeks out before he can even start to work on it. But better to have it in line and available to the shop than hope they call me when they do...LMAO! Sounds like the tab will run around four grand if the swing motor needs replacing...which seems to be the greatest probability at this time. I'm located about sixty-miles East of Nashville, if you hear of 331 parts coming available let me know

i would love hear outcome my first thought was cross port releif valve but both directions ? once again to reiterate:: in order to form a solid knowledge base. we need problem solved this fixed it type of stuff,

Thanks for the reminder...solutions to repair issues are significant to this forum and I had failed to contribute my part of the forum..."The solution". Turns out the drive motor for the 331 had come COMPLETELY unglued from it's mounting! Apparently what had not vibrated loose, had broken/sheared the remaining mounting bolts. Obivously, the pinion gear would not consistently mesh up with the turret gear, nor would it "hold" when it did mesh...the drive motor shifting away whe a load applied. I am new to miniexcavators, but not new to the world of mechanics. When I hear...feel... things going bump, grind, screech I pay attention and chase down the issue. In this case there was no noise or otherwise an indication of a loose drive motor...even though on the 331 the operator virtually sits on top of that drive motor. Pieces of bolts and part of the pinion gear "pin"...attaching shaft and pinion gear...had fractured and became embedded in lubricating grease of the turret/peripheral gear, preventing full 360 degree rotation of the turret. Mechanic used a magnet and fished out the metal fragments. Weeks of being in-line for repairs. Actual work time twelve, or so, hours...cost $1100. Have not put the 331 to jobsite yet, but seems satisfactory.

It's a shame they can fail in this way, but it does seem to happen more often than it should.
Glad it's fixed, the price to repair it doesn't sound too bad to me either. You must have been lucky enough for the gears to not have worn too badly need replacing.

seems you got off pretty easy , especially if it sheered off bolts ------------ I would bet big that there had to be some dings , chips and scaring of the ring and drive gear when it jumped around , but it would still work --------- I know I guy that broke one tooth off the ring , if he stopped in just the right spot he had to get off the machine and push the boom to get it grab again , he was use to it and worked off the opposite side and keep it moving when he got to the bad spot and stills runs his machine like that
