Hi All. Im going to look at a 2002 JD 250 skidsteer. The owner cant find the serial number, anyone know where it is? If I called JD, and gave them the serial, do they keep track of options, repairs etc that they can tell me?What should I look for on them, im new and this will be my first. Has very low hours, under 300, whats the average price for this? Thanks Andy

If you're sitting in the seat, it will be on the right side of the machine right above your right foot on the side(inside the cab). A JD dealer will be able to tell you what options the machine was originally sold with as well as any warranty claims that were ever filed and the corresponding hours. Good thing to check on a low houred machine like that. If it had a claim in 03 with 500 hours, the board has been replaced and you now have no clue what you're dealing with. Look at Machinery Trader.com for values. There will be dozens of them to compare to. Should be some deals out there with the slow construction and everybody sitting tight to their cash.
250's are good machines that will surprise you with their capability for their size.
