I am looking at a used bobcat 530. It has the 19 hp engine. This is just for light work around my acreage. Anyone have thoughts, good or bad about these units? What should the range of cost for these be? Thanks Chris

I am no historian on Bobcat production dates , but have been working on them for a long time and if it is a Clark I don't think '89 is far enough back to be a Clark, any way , I think depending on condition $1,000 to $2,500 max

Thanks for the reply. Well then I may have messed up big then. I went an looked at it and it seemed in pretty good shape. Looks wise I didn't think twice when the ad said '89. Here is the link for the unit: http://desmoines.craigslist.org/grd/676983544.html It seems to run good so I gave $4k for it. From eBay anything that runs seems to bring $3k. And thats for 30 year old skid loaders. An 1816B's are bringing $3k. I called a CASE-IH dealer that had one and they said they had sold one for $4250. Couple of questions. When running uphill at full speed the engine bogs down. Is this normal for a 3000 lbs 19hP machine? Seems reasonable, but I have never run one. Thanks Chris

Here's the serial number if that helps someone identify the age of this machine. s/n 4994-M-12496

Its normal to bog down up a hill, ease off the steering levers a bit and it should be good. I am assuming its hydrostatic drive?
My 743 with 36hp bogs down a little going up hills.

Thanks. That make me feel better. I figured it has to bog some because my 18hp 500 lb lawn tractor slows some. So a 3k lb 19hp skid has to. I took off a couple hyd hose to have remade and they had what looked like a date code. It was '78. So I would assume the machine is a '78/'79. Live and learn I guess. I would like to degrease the engine compartment after I fix the leaking hoses. How should I do that and with what? Thanks guys. Chris

That year sounds about rite to me, i had a 731 that was a 78 model.
The best way to clean a machine is a steam cleaner, but not many people have one, me included. The way i do it is spray a heap of de-greaser or old diesel around and let it work then pressure wash it out. It gets a lot, but never all. You can give it a go and see how it works out. You may need to attack it more than once though. The only way to get it ALL is to pull the engine to get in all the hard to reach places. Its not the way i would recommend, just clean out what you can.

Hi,
I have a question for you, being that you work on bobcats a lot! We've done a lot of little repairs to our bobcat 530, however the weld to the starter mount (aluminum, at the bottom of the engine) has broken twice now, without hardley any "run time!" between repairs! Thoughts?
