    Something to pull saplings

Our property was timbered quite a few years ago. And as usual, there are saplings growing everywhere in the woods. I would like to clear these out to make the woods open and even the where I might get some grass growing for some livestock and be able to mow and keep things clear. I can go along...

    Value ?

I have an early 80's 753 Bobcat. Kubota engine, toothed bucket, hydraulic lines up front, and it has right about 4000 hrs. Virtually new tires and rims. Thinking on selling it, I really don't need that kind of machine anymore. Any ballpark idea what it would bring? Thanks!

    Building a Wood Splitter

Well, I have gotten to the point I've actually been splitting wood! I had a couple "bugs" to work out initially, and have a few more things to do, but it's working at least. Of course once I finish "de-bugging" I'll paint it, but here is what I've done so far. ] Thanks to everyone that helped...

    Building a Wood Splitter

"So......where is my splitter???" Well, I think you would be happier if I worked all the bugs out of mine first! Since that may take several years......... Anyway, thinking about what you wrote, you may be perfectly correct. I suppose if I have fluid running through the valve, the valve will...

    Building a Wood Splitter

OK everyone, thanks to all the input, I'm getting close to making this thing work. At least the rough version. There are things I plan on adding to it, but for now, I need to get this working to get some wood stockpiled, then I'll add the rest, and paint it. So my question is, even though it...

    Building a Wood Splitter

I have just about all my parts and pieces to begin, and I had a thought....... Why make this thing an attachment, why not make this on a stand, self supporting, and just pull the Bobcat along side and hook up the hoses? I use the Bobcat to haul the firewood pieces out of the woods since the...

    Building a Wood Splitter

Ken, Thanks for the link to the other valve. It's cheaper than the one I found too! While I think I wouldn't use the splitter vertically very often, I can see where having the cylinder free to move could be an issue! I do have some big pieces that I think I would rather roll over to the splitter...

    Building a Wood Splitter

Oh, and I forgot to mention. By making the wedge ram mounted, I should be able to stand this on it end, ans split vertically if I have pieces too heavy to lift. I could roll them onto the stop and split them that way.

    Building a Wood Splitter

Jerry, It seems to be about 50-50, whether the splitter is in the ram or beam. I've looked at every website around, and still it seems to be a preference thing. I think I'll still go with the ram splitter. I did look into a control valve, and found this that appears to be what was talked about...

    Building a Wood Splitter

Thank you all for your help. I should have been more clear on my intent. My plan is to operate the splitter at the attachment, not in the seat. So, I gather this: Use 3/4" lines, no problem. Get an "open center" valve so the fluid flows through the valve. I have heard of the detent release...

    Building a Wood Splitter

I have a 753 Bobcat, and want to make a splitter attachment. I have the beam and plate steel. My questions are: 1) I'm going to use a 4" bore, 24" stroke cylinder, what type fittings on the cylinder should I look for? NPT? 2) What size/type control valve is used most often? 3) What size lines...

    753 Hydraulics

Thanks guys. I tried what was suggested and I'm happy to say I could clearly hear the bypass happen when I went through each step. Now, if I can only get my holes bored through this VA shale this weekend.....

    753 Hydraulics

Thanks, sounds simple enough, and logical. I'll see what happens, or what I hear!

    753 Hydraulics

I bought this 753 about 5 years ago (it's a 1980's something) to use around our property, and have had no problems at all. It has the hydraulic lines for attachments with quick disconnects, but to date, I've never used an attachment. However, I need to rent an auger this weekend, and before I...
