Problem solved. The jam nut had worked loose on the drive belt tensioner and let the tensioner back off enough to slip. I tightened the tensioner and the jam nut and all is well. Thanks for all the responses.

I disconnected the sender, the one at the filter with 3 wires, and the light goes out but still nothing happens. I suspect this sender feeds a solenoid on the system somewhere. Thanks!!

The new fan motor came in and reassembly went pretty well. The fan runs ok and the AC unit seems to be ok. Can anyone tell me how to remove the heater/AC fans? It looks like it has to come out the bottom somewhere.

It has an electric solenoid for shut down. I did take the plunger out of the shut down switch to make sure that wasn't the problem.

I already did the fresh bottle of fuel @ the primer bulb and it doesn't fix the problem. But yes the smoke thing seems odd to me also. I wander if the guy who put the belt on got it back in time.
