Mounting 743 tires on rims by hand

I did mine completely by hand, I found using a ratchet strap around the tire help me get the bead seated. Also I used a lot of dish soap to slick up the rubber to get it on. It was a fair bit of work, but I only had to put mine on. I bought new rims and tires because the original set on the...

    743 control valve rebuild

I forget if I got the reseal kit or not when I did it. Maybe I did, but the front seal I needed wasn't included in the kit. Depending on how long you can have the machine down, you might want to remove a spool and look at the bore and front seal, they all will take the same type. The other seals...

    743 control valve rebuild

Oh here is another really good pdf I have. Not sure if you have this one. It's too big to upload so here is a link to the file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/m786kwy5y16y0rp/MelroeControlValve.pdf?dl=0

    743 control valve rebuild

These are a couple I used when doing mine. I can say this from my experience, buy extra ball bearings, they are cheap and you will probably lose a few trying to get the caps back on. Also, do all the seals and all the spools. The whole process is a pain so might as well get them all working...

743 Grinding Noise When Attempting Start

So, Im reporting back as I have the machine working again. Maybe this is a little embarrassing but it turned out to be sort of a perfect storm of things that went slightly wrong at the same time. I put the camera in through the front and everything looked fine, so I got in there and greased...

743 Grinding Noise When Attempting Start

I'm going to try and get my inspection camera in from the front and see if I can get a look at the pump shaft. In one of my pics from the top fan shroud, it looks like the u joint is not in very good alignment. It could just be the angle of the pic. But I know that the engine shock mounts are...

743 Grinding Noise When Attempting Start

Tom, what am I looking for? Broken teeth? Also, if it was a starter/flywheel issue wouldn't I have heard it when my wife cranked it with the fuel line off? It sounded normal when we tried that.

743 Grinding Noise When Attempting Start

Yeah no chance of water, I keep it garaged and haven't even plowed yet this season. So, if it was a u joint problem I would either hear squeaking when turning by hand or have seen some sort of blown out parts? Is there any chance this is something in the pump itself or your guess is on the...

743 Grinding Noise When Attempting Start

Any thoughts on this? I just took a bunch of pictures of the u joint with an inspection camera put down through the shroud. Not great quality but I don't see any broken parts, I spun the engine by hand to see all the sides of it. Could it be that the engine slid and is not aligned or maybe...

743 Grinding Noise When Attempting Start

So, it has been a while since I've posted. My 743 restoration has gone great. I rebuilt everything but the transmission, got the engine running great, rewired the whole dash, new gauges, sensors, everything was working as expected. On Tuesday I started it up and put my bucket away and put the...

    Bobcat 743 Creep adjustment

I just wanted to share my creep adjustment technique for anyone else struggling to get their neutral set. Here is a picture of my setup. I clamp a 4 foot level across the machine and then clamp the sticks to the level. While the neutral blocks are slightly loose I can use a hammer to tap the...

For completeness, you can get the NAPA "Gold" 1482 filter or the Donaldson P164384. I found the Napa one way cheaper on amazon than at my local Napa, I mean less than half the price, YMMV.
