I figured it out this morning right when I woke up. The bearing was shot on the jackshaft so that sprocket was tilted up. As the chain ran to the first sprocket it was misaligned.

I was replacing the right side variable speed jackshaft bearing and noticed the sprocket on the rear clutch was really worn. Even right into the plate the clutch plate seats against. The front sprocket and chain looked fine. Anyone know why only one sprocket would wear that much?

I think I found the culprit. I have an inspection/gear covering on either side that are each approx. 24" long by 18" high with a lip along the top where rain water can accumualate. I think I'll run a bead of caulk along the top or if the gaskets are cheap enough I'll order them. While I had the...

Thanks OldMachinist. Just checked a local lawn and garden shop. This morning the father said no way, part is obsolete. Called again after lunch and the son said he can get the gasket. Hmmm.. Doesn't hurt to ask twice.

Anyone know where I can find an exhaust manifold gasket for my 500? Seems my local repair shop can't find anything, not even from the local Bobcat dealer. Its a 25 hp Kohler. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
