Hi Guys, I purchased a 94 Bobcat with a V2203-B Kubota and a fully enclosed cab with heat. I just used it for the first time in the cold. I cant get the temperature up. It only shows 1 bar on the temperature display. All coolant hoses are only warm to touch. I did buy another T stat, but how do I get the coolant out? (sorry for the dumb question, but I didnt see a way without making a mess!!) Also, the 2 lines that run to the heater core are "T"ed into each other. Is the correct? At approximatley 8-10" from the waterpump and Tstat housing the 2 heater core lines join each oher from a T in each line, then continue to the heater core and back. Seems to me the warm coolant might want to take the easiest path back to the motor and bypass the heater core. Any ideas? The lines are warmer up to the Ts and back to the motor than the lines running to the core. Any diagrams of the heater setup? How many bars on the dig readout should the temp read? My whole problem is the air is hardly warm coming from the vents and I keep frosting up all the windows. Thanks for the help!!!

Your temp sender may be bad causing it to only read 1 bar.
As for the heater, it *may* be clogged up.
There was recently a post on this wit the same problem. The heater just wouldn't put out much heat, it had the same T setup too, i don't understand how it works either unless there is a restrictor in there somewhere.

There should be a drain tap below the injector pump.I think if you replace the t.stat you problems will be solved.

my 93 753 was the same, t stat was good, but it wuld only light the 2nd bar when working hard on a summer day. If I put a cardboard over the rad the rest started lighting up pretty quickly and by 215 degrees (it seems to me, memory) then were all lit.

I picked up a new Tstat, but it shows it is a 71C or 160F stat. Doesnt seem very warm to me. Is there someone here who has access to part numbers? Is there a hotter stat? Ken, I thought about the cardboard over the rad senerio, but I would also be blocking the hydraulic cooler. How do I know if the hydraulics get too hot? Also, I read you dont want to run these Kubotas too hot or they start cracking heads. Thanks for the help!

I just used cardboard to see if the temp guage was working.
160 is too cool, if you want heat get at least a 180 if not a 190

just picked up a 180 will try tonight
Blocking the radiator for short periods of time won't cause any problems. The main cause of cracks in Kubota engines is when the get hot fast, like from loss of coolant its not just the fact they got hot. If it warms up evenly it will not expand at different rates causing cracks.
180F thermostat sounds more like what it should be.

Ok BIG PROBLEMS! I went to remove the 2 t-stat bolts and guess what....they broke. I think I can get them because once I get the housing off quite a bit of stud will be sticking out. I can try and weld some nuts to those to remove. However, How do I get the hydraulic fluid out?? I need to remove the filter and housing and the large steel line that runs to it. Thanks again for the help!

Do you mean coolant?
There should be a tap just below the injector pump that you can use to drain the fluid. Can you drill the old bolts/studs out? I did that when i broke a bolt on my water pump.
Welding a nut to the stud does help!

No the hydraulic filter is positioned almost over the Tstat housing. I just removed the filter and it drained enough fluid to remove the lines. BUT!! I have BIG problems now. The tstat housing was rusted to the bolts and would not come off. I tried a hammer and a punch to work it off, but it wouldnt budge. I BROKE THE LOWER HOUSING! Anyways, got the water pump off, etc and i managed to get the lower and upper housing off together. I had to beat the housing off severly to seperate the 2. There was no way it would of happened in there anyways. The stat is date coded '92!! Never been changed. So now my question is....is the lower and upper tstat housings available from Kubota? What $$ will I be looking at? Thanks for the help!

I believe they are, what model engine do you have?
EXACTLY what do you need? just the part that joins to the head? that the thermostat sits in with the round top and the hose connects to that to the radiator?
If you are willing to pay freight i *may* be able to help you out here. Still may be an idea to get a price from bobcat or Kubota as it may be cheaper than freight, although i do doubt it.

Hi It is a 1994 V2203-B Kubota. I definately need the lower housing that bolts to the head(4bolts) and actually houses the Tstat. The upper 90degree elbow to the upper rad hose is useable, but i would replace if necessay. Let me know what you have and how much. I have this machine sitting in front of the only door into my shop at home and causing me grief to no end! I expected about an hour Tstat job. I have to get it together and out of the way!! Thanks again!

The parts will be available. Find a Kubota engine dealer, they will have the best price on new. Bobcat has always been more when I checked. Of course bobcat may have good used, these are a vary common engine, used in 751 753 763 773 s130 s150 s160 s175 s185
Also there is a fellow on Ebay remaning these engines, he would be worth a try for good used.

If you need to move the machine you still can, just don't run it long! if you just need it just over there ---> start it and move it quickly, keep the revs low, run it no more than say 10 seconds. I have run engines on the bench like this before, as long as you don't run them long they don't have a chance to heat up! Only do it of you really have no choice.
I will ensure i have the housing you are after, i'm pretty sure i do but i'd check with Ken's contacts as they will be more local than i am. I'm in Australia, but nothing air post can't fix..

Sorry for the lack of quality, my digital camera is dead and all i have is my mobile phone camera. If its the same, i can post it to you if you just pay the freight. I have a few spare engines for parts and i'll never need ALL the thermostat housings.
I can supply sizes to confirm its the same, i don't want to send something thats not rite.
The housings look the same as the V1702 as well with very minor changes in apearance, but the exact mountings. I'm pretty sure this is off a V2203 that hung a rod, i striped it a few weeks back.
If you need to catch me, in my profile is my e-mail address or you can get me here.

Glad you sorted it out!
A manual really is a good idea, it will cover just about everything on the machine. If you do your own work its a must!

Ok, I got it back together, fired it up and ran it to check for leaks....so far so good. I have a few questions....are these normally hard to get the air out of the cooling system? Should I run it for a bit with the rad cap off? Also, when I pulled the water pump off, did I expose the crankcase to coolant? I just want to make sure no coolant got in the oil when i pulled the pump and a gush of water came out. I will wait for your responses before I put it to work. Thanks again!!!!!
