JD 250 left joy stick grinds when parking brake is on

My John deere 250 started to make a grinding noise sometimes when the parking brake is on. It's coming from the left side joystick. If I set the brake, and idle it down, it grinds and stalls the engine. It doesn't do it all the time, but seems to be getting worse. Any ideas where to start looking?

Pick it up off the ground and block it up good replace any worn parts in the steering and ajust it till the wheels don't turn with the brake off
