My skid steer may sit for a month or more between usage. Anyone suggest a diesel oil additive to reduce dry start? Alternately, has anyone built a self made pre-oiler for diesel engine and turbo and supply a parts detail?.I am supposing a few check valves or selenoids, a sturdy hand pump or suitable 12v pump would make sense, locating those items and at a reasonable price is a trick? The commercial pre-oilers tend to be a bit pricey for my pocketbook? I am impressed with the depth and range of knowledge here on the forum. Thanks to All,Anthony

You don't feel that the anti-drain back oil filters available won't work? The way i understand them, they have more or less a one way valve so when the system is 'primed' its always like that, even when sitting for long periods of time. As long as the filter is anti-drain back it should hold?

Lucas makes an additive that keeps the parts lubed even for long periods of nonuse. I dont know the correct name but its their standard oil additive. It does work and Im not a big fan of additives. I rarely use additives in anything. The Lucas product will be far cheaper than a preoiler or accumulator setup. We use it in several pieces of equipment owned by the federal government. The equipment only gets used once a month if we get to it and sometimes it is several months between use. We havent had any turbo or oil related failures even when we were deployed to the big sand box and the temps were 140F. Its in trucks, loaders, dozers, graders, backhoes, and the like.

I am familiar with "Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer" up to to 20% can be added to oil.I wonder if that is the product you are recommending? It comes in gallon jugs with a semi tractor trailer drawn on the front of the jug?It is thicker than honey, the auto parts stores and wal-mart carry it here in town? This seems like the Lucas product you have recommended, about what percentage do you add to the engine oil? Thanks Anthony

Summit racing has these for 220, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MEL-MPL-101/ it is basically an accumulator that store engine oil under pressure while the motor is running.
Before a long shut down period you would close the valve to the accumulator while the engine is running and it would store a quantity of oil under pressure.
Later at startup you would open the valve and the system would get a shot of oil from preluber prior to start up
