Hello all. New member here. I have been lurking quietly in the shadows for some time now reading and what I can from the great folks here as I have been working on a project I picked up that is now nearing completion. I have a 2006 S130 that someone drove off a barge and I managed to pick up for virtually nothing. Owner of the machine changed all fluids/filters immediately, but there was internal damage to the motor (2 bent rods) so he got rid of the machine. I have completely reworked the motor and that seems to be purring along quite nicely and all function tests are good. I am at the point now where the I am just doing nick nacky things to fully restore the machine and got the stuff to do the 1000 hour service from the dealer, which brings me to my question. What they gave me was two small brass filter assemblies that look like over grown sewing thimbles that go into 2 aluminum filter housings that somewhat resemble the inline fuel filters on a mid 90s chevy trucks. (3/8 JIC in/out or roughly equivalent). I can see one of the little canisters sitting clear as day bolted to the top of the chain case about 6 inches in front of the pump, but for the life of me I cant find the second filter. For all the stuff I have done to this machine I can't believe I can't find something as simple as a filter. Can anyone direct me to where the second canister is located? Thanks -Mike

Hi Mike. Indeed, one filter is on top of the chain case, easy accessible. the other one is on the left side behind the cover between the wheels. unbelievable to put a filter on that place. (when not on the left side, then look on the right side....) it does the same as the other one, so why not assembled in the same way. but yeah that's bobcat. anyway, don't feel ashamed there are always strange things on machines. regards hans

Fantastic! Thanks for the pointer. I would have never thought to look there. Regards. -Mike

Yeah, Bobcat did a great job planning this one out. These are the filters that go to your drive motors. These are probably one of the more important items to check often. When these filters get full of dirt, its the fastest way to blow a shaft seal on your motor. Keeping these filters clean will definitely keep your machine running in top condition.

Ok, so after a major delay due to some personal medical issues, I finally got to changing these filters. I found a small amount of metal shavings in both of the filters. Should I be worried? The unit has 1130 hours.

Also, the filters "out" side was facing away from the drive motors towards the reservoir, is this the right direction? I am not super confident in the maintenance abilities of the former owner.

If there are only a few and small, don't be worried, normal wear.
That is the correct direction. Out is to the oil tank. In is from the motor.

I would say there were at most, 15 to 20 visible pieces per filter, all no larger than 1/8 x something in the thousandths. There was only 1 or 2 that large. Average size was between a 1/16h and 1/32nd (or smaller) by something in the thousandths.

I wouldn't be too worried. It could be wear from the linkages from the motor its self to the chain case, there is a drive gear that looks like a bone to link the two. If its still running ok, ignore them.

Actually seems to me that it runs better since I changed the filters.
