Cold Canadien day, skid steere would not start. Friend tried boostng and starter began to smoke. Cried... Pushed skid steere into garage with another machine by skidding it on the ice and then wd 40'ing the smooth concrete in the garage. Starter was toast so I replaced it. Difficult job considering arms were down but it was possible. Moment of truth. Turned it over a few times and then .. click click. Every thing is tight, what now? Replaced ground battery cable. Tried again. It turns over great, but now it wont fire. Electric lift pump sounds like it works, fuel bowl fills , fuels seeps out of bled valves on injector pump. it seems that no fuel comes out of injector lines at the engine when you turn it over. No smoke out of exhaust either. Loossend injector line to try and bleed it no fuel comes out. Checked all fuses. Is it air locked, did skidding it do something, can temp change cause an air lock,. Is my injector pump broken or stuck. Any tips, tricks or fuel additives I can try pleas let me know. thank you. jOHN DEERE SAYS IT WAS BUILT BY NEW HOLLAND BUT HAS A JD ENGINE.

How difficult is it to remove the pump? I have heard the allinement is very important once reinstalled? The arms are down which makes it more difficult What do you think it would cost to take it in to a shop?
I'm not very familiar with the injection pumps that John Deere uses so I don't want to steer you wrong in that area. The timing is very important when the pump is removed and reinstalled. The majority of the cost will be in the repair of the injection pump, the service shop should only have a few hours labor in removing and reinstalling the pump. If the engine will crank you should be able to hold the pedal like you are raising the boom while cranking the engine and it should raise high enough to put the boom locks out.

This has a Yanmar diesel in it and JD uses these engine in alot of their small tractors too.
Does it have a electric fuel shut off on the injection pump. 1st step is to be sure power is getting there.
If it is gettin power at the shut off can you hear or feel it click when someone switches on the key?
You coul of had a failure in a wire fuse or switch which caused the original no start problem.
draggin it into the shop is not going to hurt anything but the tire wear.

It has a Yanmar pump on a john deere 220 series engine.Where /what is this can. Does the wire come from the starter or th fuse box. Thanks

Look for a single power wire going to the pump. I should have power when the key is switched on. You should be able to feel/hear the solinoid click when you switch the key on.
Test for power, if there is none hook it to some, see if you can hear/feel it click in and out (when power is removed) and try to start.

Do all injector pumps have this electric switch? I cant seem to find any wire going to the pump. 1998 machine with a yanmar injector pump.
Not all have this solenoid, some have a lever under them to shut the fuel supply off.

if it has a lever then the machine either needs a cable shut off or a solinoid to pull the lever if it shuts the engine off with just a key
I would like to thank everyone for their help and knowledge. I was able to lift the boom while cranking the engine over. I then found the wire. It was disconnected some how. Once I gave it power, the silonoid clicked and the machine fired right up. The wire has a connection that looks like it came off a bolt. Where is the proper place for this wire to be connected? What should I look for? Thanks again Skidsteer forum.

I think it is a power wire. the silanoid clicls when touched to the battery. It has a fork connection on it. Like it slips on a bolt. Does anyone know where it is supposed to be connected?

Most likely went to the starter solenoid to supply voltage while the unit was it the start position of the key switch. Once the unit is running the wire is likely fed from another source like the run position of the key switch but most likely a solenoid controlled by the onboard computer.
Good point, that's how i wired mine up.
