I have an old JD 170 that is having a problem while reversing. The left side has no power during reverse, it is funtioning great other wise. Does anyone have any troubleshooting information on this oldie but goodie? Any information would greatly be appreciated!

Hopefully its something as simple as a relief valve on the drive pump. You will have four, one for each side and one for each direction.
I am assuming it is hydrostatic drive.

Thank you for yor help! It is the clutch plates worn out. I don't guess you would know where I am able to get replacements. I contacted the Crown dealer by me and they gave me a part number GG190-27082. The said they do not make a replacement any more. I would have to buy an complete replacement assembly. Again thanks for your help.

Can you take it to a clutch/brake shop and see if they can re-bond it? I know there are places that do it over here in Australia.

Thank you for your help. I found a place in Ohio that has an aftermarket replacement.

What is the place in Ohio, I have a OMC 1700 which is the same and I am having the same issue.
I found the same clutches at Worthington Ag Parts in Iowa Falls Iowa.. the pair for the right side ran me 500 bucks and they were very near new

i just got a set for an OMC mustang 1700 about a year and a half ago from i believe it was someplace in ohio, i can look when i get home. 6 disks and 5 plates cost like $185.00 with shipping and that is enough for 1 clutch pack. i had one forward clutch that wasn't working, put those in and presto, good as new again! plus i had a couple spare parts for any of the other 3 clutch pacs that might need a plate or disk. the place i got them from was great. called him, told him jd 170 gave him credit card info and had the clutch parts in a few days. perfect! micheal
