Does anyone have any good numbers for replacement/alternative glow plugs that will fit an 843 Bobcat with a Perkins 4.156/200 diesel engine? All four of my are "toast" as Tazza puts it! No heat at all from any of them. Voltage is good going to all four of them. Anyway, I started with my dealer who doesn't stock them for my machine but can get them for $36 each, then went to a Perkins dealer who doesn't stock them either and will order them for $54 each! They have to be gold plated or something. With all the manufactures of glow plugs, such as Bosch, NGK, Champion, Motorcraft, and the like, I can't find anyone around here in Lexington KY that can cross over the Perkins number (135318140A 12V) to another brand. I read bobbie-g's post where he found a Bosch number replacement for his Peugeot XUD9 engine. The Bosch number 80006 glow plug that bobbie-g found is not quite long enough to match the one in the Perkins engine. Anyway, surely there is another source out there somewhere.

Your best bet would be to remove one and plug the hole. Take the plug to a diesel repair shop and i believe they will have a cross reference for this plug. I use NGK on my 743, they cost me all of $10 each, thats in aussie dollars too. Bobcat will want that much because they are re-seling it and Perkins charge you and arm and a leg because they can brand them as their own!.
I'm sure you will find them at a reasonable price, glad you found the problem too! a new set of plugs and it will start like a dream.

From the www.boschusa.com website: Bosch Customer Service: 888-715-3616 (Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CST; for U.S.) I found when I called, the very nice screener person took the info request, then had a techie call me back. First time it only took 10 minutes or so for the call back. Next time it was more like an hour. But, the techie was very knowledgeable and gave me not only the Bosch part number, the Bosch stock number, cross-reference info, but also gave me a list of distributors which carried the parts. Seems like it would be worth a call to see what happens. --- Bob

Well bobbie-g and Tazza looks as though I'm out of luck on this one. No one seems to be able to cross over my Perkins glow plug part number. All the diesel repair shops here seem to rely on the part houses and OEM dealers for their glow plugs. I contacted the customer service departments for Bosch as you said Bob and also for NGK (877-473-6767) and Champion (800-325-8886) with all the same result. No cross over to their number or a listing for my Perkins 4.156/200 diesel engine. So looks like I'll have to eat this one for $140 for all 4 of them! I called Bobcat dealer this morning and ordered them so I get them Wednesday. Maybe I will get a different number from what is in there now when they get here and find some alternative for the future. I guess I'm just glad I didn't have to get them from Perkins as $50+ a pop! Thanks for all your input!

We'll all be really interested in whether you find those plugs in a box which indicates the real manufacturer. And in whether there is a part number on the plugs themselves. My plugs (original plus replacements) both had a Bosch part number on them. The thermostat(s) I bought ($40 each from Bobcat) are in Bobcat boxes, so they've probably been repackaged. What I need is a good friend in France (????) who can buy parts from Peugeot. ---Bob

Either that or find someone that does aftermarket parts for them.
I got my parts for my Kubota engine non-genuine, they were less than 1/2 the price.

Got my glow plugs from Bobcat yesterday afternoon. They came in a sealed Bobcat bag with the Bobcat number 6599285 on it. It does say "Made In Japan" on the bag but the part number on the glow plug is still the Perkins part number 1353181480A 12V. So looks as though we struck out on this one for getting an alternative non-genuine part. I'm going to continue trying to find them even though I shouldn't have to replace them again now that all the wiring is back to the original specs.
My searches are now being directed to tractor dealers that sell Japanese tractors. Massey tractors are the only one I know for sure that use Perkins diesels but there are plenty of other Japanese tractors.
Well, the $141.00 will be worth it as long as it cures the starting strains during cold starts! It's only money right!
