Great site guys have been visiting daily for months, learning a lot. Tonight doing a little dirt work around the house and all of a sudden no lift with the arms and very slow on the tilt of the bucket. Fluid looks good 1/4" down on the dipstick. Rams didn't fell hot and lines all looked good not pinched or leaking. Any Ideas? Thanks Jon

Welcome to the site.
Does it still drive ok? no shuddering or odd noises?
If so, it seems to only be affecting your hydraulics which could be a problem with your relief valve, it may be by-passing giving you no hydraulic pressure. These machines use basically 3 pumps, 1 for each side for driving and 1 for the hydraulics which also acts as a charge pump for the hydrostatic drive pumps.
Try to give us some more info, i'm sure someone will know where else to look.
ooh, the oil, is it foamy at all?

Thanks Tazza for your quick reply. Foamy oil? far as I can tell it looks good and clean. Forward and reverse movement just fine at the wheels as befor. Its Just like no hydralic pressure to lift the arms and very little to dump bucket. No shuddering and no odd noises. Just made a round trip with a full load of dirt like I had been doing for an hour and no pressure??

No pressure as in low pressure to your hydraulics, there is obviously still some pressure there as you said your rams still moved but slowly. Another thought, your right steering lever, has it poped into aux detent at all? pull it inwards to make sure its not. This would also cause the problem you mention. Pull the lever all the way to the left and let it spring back to centre, then see if that works.
*crosses fingers* i hope its that simple.

Forgot to mention, foamy oil as in full of air bubbles, this is usually a sign of cavetation from low speed, an air leak or an oil restriction on the inlet. I hope that clears things up a bit. Your oil tank should be full and have no bubbles in it, unless you just did some work on the hydraulic/hydrostatic system. This system is self bleeding so it will remove all the air in time if there are faults.

I have tried the joy stick trick and no luck. Was told today by a cat mechanic that it would be the pressure relief valve. So what the heck here I go, I removed the battier to get to it had to weld a socket on top of a deep-well socket and a 2.5 foot extension and Ive got half of it removed. The hi flow? solenoid with the two wires came of pretty easy as he said it would but I can not get the valve to come out. in the mean time with a magnet trying to fish the spring out I came up with a very small piece of a retaining c clip the very end of on looks like its been floating around for a while. Hope that is what is blocking the pressure and that I can get the rest of it out and get the needle and stopper back installed if I am even on the right track?? However the c clip retainer didn't need to be laying in their. What a mess. Thanks

It sounds like you are on the rite track at least. Hopefully the other piece isn't too far away, hopefully IF it did get past it may have gone through your filter and has been caught as the relief seems to have been stuck open. I just don't know where this piece could have come from.
As for the poppet not coming out, it should come out really easily with a magnet, there is nothing that holds it in there once you remove the cap. I can't even recommend pointy nose pliers as you already used a 2.5' extension to get to it.
Do keep us informed as to how you go.

OK Its fixed.......:) Their is a small c clip retainer holding the valve together. Both ends where you install the tips on you pliers were broken and a very small piece was???? lodged somewhere or they were floating around in the relief valve and it was a o'ring that was riped looked like it was just rotted, the other two o'rings were flat. No one open to day and no way to remove the half moon c clip retainer. So I cleaned it up blew through it all Installed new o'rings and it works better than ever. Worried about the clip breaking again however at that point I will be able to install one or replace the whole unit. I worked with to hardened picks for 45 min and it was a lost cause it would not come out. Great site and thanks Tazza for your replies. Hope this post will help some one at some time. I don't have a lot to contribute just like reading everybody's experiences. Jon

Excellent, every little experience helps. Your problem may help another person with the same symptoms.

You may have to replace the O ring where it joins up to the control block too, if there is any leakage change it, make sure you oil it up before you screw it in to prevent it pinching.

Welcome Jon and thanks for sharing your experiences. As I'm another new 843 too. Haven't had mine all that long, (Oct 05) and still learning. Tazza has been a great help to us all. I'm in the process of going through my 843 and hope to have it back up and operating for the spring. Although I've not much experience with skid steers I have 35 yrs of aircraft maintenance behind me and hydraulic systems for the most part are all based on the same principals. I too read here alot. Glad you got your problem fixed. Jay
