I'm Justin. I'm from southern Az. I'm a certified diesel tech. I currently bought a 89 bobcat 743 with a v1702. Did a complete engine rebuild and currently working on bringing this old girl back to her glory days. Appreciate any and all help that can be provided.

Welcome, I also bought a 89 743 three years ago. I rebuilt it as well. There is some more I want to do but for the most part it works and runs good. I have really enjoyed working on it and now using it.

743 = good machine!
Will get most everything done…no BICS, BOSS,trouble codes, computers, etc! Strong enough engine. Just don't let it overheat.

Yes, I keep my eye on the temperature gauge.
And it's a pretty straightforward piece of equipment.
It's my new back muscles 🤣🤣

just remember to grease those zerks on the driveshaft,they are often overlooked.
There is a good "how to locate" article on this... it involves raising the cab and laying on the pump as you reach around the "firewall". You wouldn't know about these if it weren't for the helpful forum that you are currently reading... this forum is very helpful...

I'm new to the group, and it's been the best move I've made. Have a 73 -743. I've had it for almost 30 years. Got it used and use it for pushing snow and corral cleaning. Has a oil leak in the central hydraulic block. Unfortunately the cost to replace is massive if you can find one. But the old girl still does the job, just have to keep an eye on the oil level. Thanks for helpful tips.

What central hydraulic block are you talking about? You can reseal almost everything on a bobcat. Replacement only needed if messed up.

Depending how far you have it torn apart, it's a great time to replace the "nightmare hose". It's a small hose at the bottom of the bay that you have to basically remove all other hoses to get to, and it's still difficult. Or was for me anyway.
Enjoy the machine, I love mine!

Do you have a picture of it? I might know which one you talking about. Does the Hose has a Warning Decal on it?

When I had my engine out I also replaced that line, what a pain but glad I did.

The main intersection of lines coming out to all areas. The block is cracked and bobcat said they are hard to find and expensive. Have tried to seal with anything that has been suggested to try and l have at least slowed it down. It would be no good to use at a worksite but for me it only has limited hours. You can see the leak if look in the back while working bucket

Do you have a picture and a Serial of your machine?

So little update been finally getting to the test drive operating point of my machine restore. I had a machine shop cut down the fins on my flywheel due to so many broken missing and it vibrating my engine pretty severely. I installed 2 10" electric fans on the radiator rated for 1200 cfm. My current engine temp slowly climbs to around 190-200 while operating in 80 degree weather. I'm going to build a fan shroud and go to 12" dual fans rated for 2400 cfm. Has anyone done an electric fan conversion on these since you can't find a flywheel blower assembly?
