I'm trying to decide on which one. The 1818 is in good operation. The 1830 he said smokes a little. Which really doesn't concern me if I have to repower, unless that model is one you can't.
What one is the better machine for just random use around the house. Any down side to either

1818 would be cute but isn't a whole lot more than a motorized grain shovel. 1830 would actually do something. If you want something smaller I would hold out for an 1835. It would be more machine mechanically than the 1830.

Mainly gonna be moving dirt around my mx track and hauling a bucket of firewood to the shop.

1830 would be far more stable working on an MX track. They are a 60" wide wheelbase and the little 18s are maybe 36". They were designed to fit through walk through barn doors. I've never tipped an 1835 sideways and not for lack of trying.

I own an 1818 Case. I have had it for years now. I cleared a lot of things with it. No issues but as many said it is for a general use not a heavy type of use as some discribed. Mine has an Onan engine and runs fine. I did have one issue with it quiting while in use. Had it serviced and they put on an electric fuel pump and since then it runs well. It is made mainly for level ground operations. It will tip if in the wrong positions Sideways but I got use to that. Really comes down to Maintenance of the machine. Oil levels, Good gas and all that. It is hard to work on but not impossible. I bought it with 300 hours on it. Now has 1000. I recently developed an issue with the right side drive where as it will not turn but that's another mystery. My advice is try them both out. I use mine now for snow removal and general things like wood chuck loading etc. If your're sure it runs out fine and all operation work without issues and has an Onan engine air cooled. Good Price and all that. Then depending on what your're using it for I would consider it. Like barn use. Liftine landscape blocks and so on. It will do well. If for any reason you want more then go to a unit as some explained in this thread. Parts also may be an issue not sure I haven't needed to much and it's been years. Consider all that was mentioned then Good Luck!

Another thing to consider is your body size and the amount of time you will be spending in it. If you are Taller or larger than average you may find the 1818 a tight fit. I have an 1830 and at 350lbs its even a little snug.

I am 165lbs and 5'10" The 1818 is tight but I fit it well. Good points you made.

Get the bigger one, the only thing appealing about the 1818 is the price. Its really more of a useful toy. Its handy to store and use for small jobs but if your gonna do any sort of dirt work at more than retired, something to do with my time speed you will just be mad after the first week. More than likely after a year you will be wishing you bought something bigger than the 1830.

Yep, less than 6 months after getting the 1830 I was dreaming of 1845's and what it must be like to have a real machine.
