S150 no start.

so here is a question- should a starter crank from just shorting out the 2 posts or should the key need to be on? i thought the key needed to be on to complete the circuit? mine cranked without the key panel even being wired.......
If you jump the power in(battery lead) to the start post connection the engine will turn over, if it is a older engine and the fuel is on it can start ,so be careful either way.

thanks- i thought it would need the key but i guess the 1 post is the key and the other post is the battery

yup that is right , a older machine with no electric fuel shut off will run with the key off if you jump the starter relay.
so my buddy (electrician) has been tied up and hasnt made it over- i am TERRIBLE with knowledge on using a meter....... 12 volts at battery- 1 lead on each post 12 volts at starter- 1 lead on starter, 1 lead on neg post of battery 12 volts at computer, starter fuse- leads on each port for fuse 12 volts at relays- just probed around in ports with leads not sure if any was done right but if so then power is good up to fuse panel thinking issue may be between it and switch panel? not sure how to test from there..... but wires are all in loom and look ok? trying to trace wires out of fuse block to trace and check connectors.....all seem dusty but sound? so mad and irritated.

You'll need to work with a wiring diagram to connectors on the harness, see what is missing.
Look at the critical power lines, fused power is the one you need to start with, ensure it's at the panels and also at the computer. The computer creates the switched power, so if there is no main power, you don't get the other.
There are only a few power lines to the computer.
It's a place to start.

ok here it is- from the battery i followed the harness under the cab on the back left side of the seat, it T's out into a conector, i tested the red pin on the connector and got 12v. i went to put the conector back together to probe the red wire on other side of conector to check and noticed the wire seemed deformed 2-3" away from the connector. i undid the connector t look at it better and noticed the wire was broken inside the insulation. i spliced in a new section and the machine fired right up. instantly beeping code 01-17 and 12-22. BUT RUNNING! i spent awhile putting everything back together and took off the air filter, yep dusty......... the 12-22 is something in the right handle controller.......... thanks everybody for the wire tracing talks.
