I purchased this unit recently understanding that it was in need of some minor repairs. The previous owner installed a rebuilt engine, but it seems he neglected to connect some of the wiring. Can anyone tell me where the oil pressure sending unit is? The wire for it comes out of the harness near the starter. I don't see anything to connect it to in that area. Also, there are two sensor looking things in the thermostat housing. Which one is for the engine temp., and what's the other one for? Thanks, jim

messick's .com has wiring schematics for it. There are a few according to s/n. The one I looked at has one wire going to temp indicator and the other looks as though it goes to ground.

Thanks jerry. i have wiring diagrams, so i know what the wires connect to. in the case of the oil pressure sender, i don't know where it is located. i don't see it in the area where the wire comes out of the harness. for the engine temp., there are two choices, one mounted below the other on the thermostat housing. not sure which is water temp, or what the other one is for. the upper one has a flat spade type connector, the lower one has a threaded post & nut. there's just one wire coming from the warning light for the water temp & oil pressure, so i suppose the sensor is normally open, and shorts to ground when overheated, or pressure too low.

Item 27 is the oil pressure sender.
It looks like a Y/DKGN wire connects to the temperature sender. If that is the color of the wire in that location see what kind of end is on it and if it matches one of the senders in the housing.

thanks mike. i'll have a look at it tomorrow. looks like someone has miss-routed the wires. the one for the oil pressure won't reach. if i can't re-rout it i'll lengthen it. using your logic the water temp sender is the lower of the two. light comes on & stays on when it's connected. guess i need a new one. at $75 i was hoping i had the wrong connector and could use the other sensor. do you have any idea what it's for?

My guess is the engine came out of some other application and the senders will prabably not work in your L555. It's been awhile since I have looked at the harness on this series, but I think the harness runs along the right side of the engine, standing behind the loader and looking forward, just above the starter. I know the pigtail is short but it should reach if the harness is in that location.

makes sense about the other application idea. the parts list shows a plug in the upper location. also i see a plug in the location where the oil sender should. guess i need to order an oil sender. thanks for the help.

Nappa has some parts for that engine. Maybe take the engine number to them and see if you can get the sending units from them. I got the hyd charge unit from them for my L553. It was a fraction of what NH wanted for it.

best thing you can do is put gauges in cab oil pressure and h2o gauge thats what i did then you can watch your engine auto zone gauges cheap and work well for loader
