Now that im almost done with several hundred dollars worth of hoses, i just need to install the new fuel tank then i can set the machine back on the wheels and fill it up with oil. My local shop has about 5 different types. John Deere, ATF, yada yada. What should i buy for my L553 and how many 5 gallon pails? Im working on a slide show so i can show you the progress. Ill get a link to it as soon as its ready. Thanks Scottlandyardspares

I'm fairly sure it's 15 gallons, but you have to consider there may be half or more just in the dry system. I use regular, general purpose hydrualic oil, but not ATF. I used to use ATF in all my older equipment but its expensive. My new New Holland stuff says it needs 10W-30 motor oil. That's about 25% higher, so I use regular hydraulic fluid with no problems.

I have a 553 with the kubota diesel engine and i use 15w40 in the engine and any kind of hydraulic transmission oil in the chain case reservoir for the hydraulics. I get my hydraulic transmission oil from tractor supply.
