starter problem

The Bendix gear on my starter is worn out, I removed the starter and disassembled it but I can't figure out how to get the bearing off of the armature shaft where the bendix gear hits when it's engaged. it has a groove on the shaft right under the front edge of the bearing but there's no snap ring in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Whitey

Whitey, starter gear is made to the bendix (starter drive). Just go an order a bendix. This will include gear, spring, bearing, and the drive. I don't think you can buy just a gear. Also check your flywheel.
