Does anyone plow snow with a closed in cab but no heat? Is this possible or do windows fog or frost up? I see 200 and 300 watt electric heater/fans online that wire directly to battery, anyone tried these? Winter probably will come again this year.

I bought one of those little electric heaters from the parts store, if you dress warm and put it up where it will blow on one ear you will have one lukewarm ear. I am hoping to get something better this year, maybe build or buy a warm water heater or get the heat off the exhaust system.

Thanks Jerry, does the little heater move the air enough to keep the windows clear? The largest I see is 300 watt so I guess it should be no smaller for sure. Do you know how many watts yours is? Thanks.

Is your machine liquid cooled or air cooled?

It is liquid cooled.
I was thinking the same, you should look into one that uses engine coolant. I remember others say with it running you almost melt inside the cab it can generate so much heat! You just need to plumb it into your engines cooling system.

I have seen heaters that use the coolant on e-bay,I think they were about $75 but not sure. I will look at my electric ones in the morning , they don't put out much heat and they sure suck current from the alternator especially when you have all the lights on also.

I can't seem to find these heaters on ebay or anywhere, anyone know what they are called, I may be searching with the wrong keywords. I can guess that even if a 300 watt electric heater would work it would be quite a drain on battery/alternator with all lights on. I am more concerned with fogging and frosting than being cold.

300 watts = 25 amp @ 12v. Most alternators will produce upwards of 50 Amps, so you will be fine. The most efficient way is the heaters that plumb into your by-pass hose in your cooling system. The heat is wasted in the radiator so its essentially free heat.

I took a heater core out of an ford truck and a dash fan out of another old truck and made a heater for my Mustang. mounted it betreen my legs with the fan blowing on the door. worked great, but the trick to keep from fogging up is to have outside air feed your heater, mine came from a crack below the door. Most cars and trucks feed the heating system through a vents. unless you want the sauna effect. cracking a window might work too. I hooked up to the existing fitting on the block for stock heater, you can mount a gate valve on one of the hoses to regulate heat and I piggy backed wiring to to the fuse block with a toggle switch and in line fuse. I took it out in the spring and installed it when it got cold.scott

The used computer cooling fans you see in surplus parts places are 12 volt and might be good for defogging the window. Some computer shops will give you one of a junk power supply.

1-989-473-2176 12500 btu 145.00 us http://www.thewarbirds.com/Main Pag...m/Vehicle Accessories/vehicle accessories.htm Or princess auto, they get them on sale sometimes and also carry the computer fan that you could stack against a heater core out of ??? and make your own No idea how many btu's the electric ones make, but in Canada, I would not waste my time, Maybe if you have a 200 amp alternator. It is better if they draw outside air, but they will work with inside air, just takes longer to clear the windows, a dash mount fan from any big rig place, Canadian tire etc, is a good idea too Ken
