rops for 1816..got a BC 731 (I think)..cut it to fit?

It scares the dickens out of me not having a cage on the 1816, and next to impossible to find one. I bought a decent rops off a BobCat 731 and it is 6" too wide and the back is configured different-But.. I was thinking cutting 6" out of it and re-welding it and then re-do the back to adapt it. I do have the cutting welding tools and skills. Is this a good Idea? I am sure I can do it to look factory.. and I am thinking anything I do is better than nothing there. It does have full sides and roof so that makes me feel it might be worth the time? I'd buy the factory one but none around. I did locate a complete machine for 1500.. But I don't need two. I actually don't need one either just to play with and move little dirt.

Technically you are not meant to even drill a hole on a ROPS, but as you have nothing now, i'd cut the 6” out of the width to make it fit. As you have the gear and ability to do the modification, i'd go for it, if the cage you got was cheap enough.
$1500 for a parts machine seems pretty good to me as well.
