i have an M500 , that is what i was told it is from previous owner. any way, it has a 23hp Kohler in it. its obvious it was repowerd. its getting very tired and i`m wondering what would be a good motor that will fit to put in it? thanks

Small Engine Warehouse has a repower section that lists this Kohler kit as a complete replacement kit for the 500, negating the need to scrounge parts and material to machine into fitment.
It's a bit spendy, so depending on your fabrication skills you might want to peruse the repower forum near the bottom here and see if someone has done an upgrade on a similar machine with a chicom Honda clone.

I have a 500 bobcat that I was given to me. If I got it gone from a widows driveway. It was repowered already (which I did not know) It has a Wisconsin tjd 18 hp inline 2 cylinder ( I was told that this engine was used because of the large tapered crank bearings for the variable speed drive thrust). It has been quite a bit of work to get it going. But now it works . But it seems to be underpowered in the drive system, the hydros. are strong. So IMO do not go with a smaller engine , but ask around if you have a variable speed trans. and the side thrust it puts on the crank.
