Question about 1816C alternator

Hi, I just bought an old 1816C skidsteer. It has an ONAN 2 cylinder engine. I would like to know if it has an alternator or a generator? When started, the voltage does'nt go up that much... I will have to remove the engine to weld one of the oil tank and while I will be there I would like to check the alternator. Thank's in advance for any help

I will answer myself... After disassembling, there is no alternator. Just a generator like a lawn moweré I would appreciate help to diagnose my electrical

OK to continue answering myself... It is an alternator with external diode and voltage regulator exactly like any seated lawnmower. The diagnosis should'nt be too hard.

You should be able to search (engine model) manual.pdf and find one with a troubleshooting guide. Probably on Manualslib, they have lots of stuff like that.
