Looking forward to seeing how this one goes.
Where did you manage to pickup the gearbox?

EBAY, I have less then $200. In the parts you looking at All new. Now to connect the dots.
That's a sweet deal. I'm especially interested in how you will make the auger. I was going to build one from scratch, but got my paws on an old worn one that i built up.

Been work-en on it, allot of turning and drilling. Ill weld the parts together along with the out side tube tomorrow I have also started on the spline coupler (planetary to drive hub) and the 2" hex coupler to auger.

Looks great, looking forward to seeing how it goes when you hook an auger up to it :)

Update, heres the finished tube and swinging mount also the start of the frame. All I have left to do with the drive is to cut the teeth in the coupler (problem we don't have the right cutter) so Ill have to rent one or have it broached either way its $100.

Just how many hours are into the build so far?

nice , glad im not alone got 8 hrs into a pool solar blanket reel, close but not perfect. 25 in parts. as to why we do what we do i cant explain the 300 i saved might come close but doesnt cover the satisfaction of better beefier and will not break or wear out.

I don't really keep track of my time spent as I do it in between things, the turning drilling & welding goes fast sometimes looking for the right piece of steel takes more time the building the part. I figure my time is mine to spend (as long as she lets me) plus this is fun right???
